General Information
Description
8-hour course to learn the basic science of thermography as it is used in residential inspections for moisture/water detection.
Expectations and goals
This 8-hour course is designed to familiarize you with basic heat transfer concepts and the limitations and capabilities of today’s thermal imaging systems. We will then cover the settings in the camera menus. Lastly, we will discuss the requirements and conditions needed to find and locate moisture/water using thermal imaging systems.
- This is a one-day class to deliver the knowledge needed to utilize an infrared camera to detect moisture in building components.
- We will explore emissivity, reflectivity, the evaporative cooling effect, thermal capacitance and many more conditions that make moisture detectable.
- We will discuss and explore those conditions that will not yield results so that we know what to avoid.
- We will learn how to identify and confirm moisture patterns as they differ from energy images and air movement.
- We will discuss and train you on the settings in today’s cameras that will lead to a more thorough analysis.
- We will also discuss and share many images and discuss how to interpret and report those issues found.
- Hands-on camera operation and actual moisture detection to finish out the day.
